THE COMMUNITY: BEACON OF HOPE SECONDARY SCHOOL

Pilgrim Africa's Beacon of Hope school supports over 500 youth in Soroti. They offer an excellent secondary program for students in need regardless of their background. Soroti is a region in Uganda stricken with poverty, where 80% of the children drop out of before secondary school. Famine and malaria aren't unknown to Soroti and it's approximately 50,000 residents, but the Beacon of Hope school gives aspiring students the chance to change their lives.

Beacon of Hope started in 2006 during Uganda's civil war, offering an education to over 200 refuge children. The school has a strong STEM focus with many successful programs including their Robotics Team. Many students have found success after their Beacon of Hope education such as Deborah Apio, a graduate attending medical school in Kenya.

We hope to share our information on solar cooking with the students of Beacon of Hope Secondary School, and find out if they are keen on working with this technology in their communities.
